Sheikh Mishary Rashed Al-Afasy was born in Kuwait in 1976. Sheikh Mishary studied at the Islamic University of Madinah in Saudi Arabia, specializing in the ten readings of the Quran. He is married, and has three children (two daughters and one son). He is also known as "Abu Rashid" (the father of Rashid). In 1998, Sheikh Mishary was awarded the first "Arab Creativity Oscar" by the Arab Creativity Union in Egypt, sponsored by the General Secretary of the League of Arab States. Sheikh Mishary is especially noted for using modern technology to deliver the message of the Quran to a wider audience. Sheikh Mishary uses television, radio, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, SMS services, and SoundCloud to share the message of Islam.
Sheikh Mishary Rashed Al-Afasy is the imam of the Grand Mosque in Kuwait City. He also makes frequent television appearances, and has published videos of his Quran recitations on YouTube. Sheikh Al-Afasy was voted by readers to be the Best Quran Reciter in the 2012 About.com Readers' Choice Awards.
Sheikh Alafasy has also released eight nasheed albums as well. He sings in Arabic, English, and French with only his voice (no musical instruments).
