Syria is a country of fertile plains, high mountains and deserts. Countless invasions and conquests through history means Syria is now a mosaic of cultures, ethnic groups and religions. Allah, Glory be to Him, refers to this land (as part of ash-Shaam) as a blessed land due to its harvests and the abundance of Prophets that walked on its soil.

Allah, Glory be to Him, refers to this land (as part of ash-Shaam) as a blessed land due to its harvests and the abundance of Prophets that walked on its soil.

In May 2011, following uprisings in the Maghreb, protests broke out across Syria seeking change. The response by the authorities has been brutal however and has led to a terrible situation for people of Syria

Civil strife in the country has turned into civil war. Tens of thousands have been killed, tortured and mutilated. Thousands more have been displaced, fleeing to country's outer borders. As the situation continues to deteriorate, millions of people need emergency food, shelter and medical aid.

Ummah Welfare Trust just one of such charities has been supporting displaced families inside the country, providing emergency food and medical provisions. Refugees fleeing to Jordan are also receiving emergency food and utensil packs.

The people of Syria have been going through great difficulties over the years. The troubles they face continue to escalate with every passing day, faceing the threat of war and extreme weather conditions with limited or no resources.

Alhumdullilah Allah SWT has blessed us with such comforts that our brothers and sisters in Syria can only dream of at this moment of time. It is our duty as individuals to help our brothers and sisters in Syria whether it be financially, volunteering for the the causes to ease their strife.

Islam in St Albans has been involved with various Syria appeals over the past twelve months organising collections and events on behalf of charities such as Ummah Welfare Trust who are heavily involved in Syria having established refugee camps in neighbouring areas.

More, recently collecting “Emergency Items Appeal for Syria” for the Luton 2 Syria Convoy in conjunction with the charities: Al fathiha, Aid 4 Syria & One Nation.

SubhanAllah the ummah of St Albans have raised thousands for our brothers, sisters and children in Syria and we make dua that Allah SWT rewards you all for your efforts.

However as time passes, life only become’s even more difficult for the people of Syria, therefore we would urge for you all to continue donating and supporting the charities who are offering aid and support and continually supporting Islam in St. Albans, working for the people of our community and we pray that Allah SWT helps unite our Ummah in this cause. Ameen.
